Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated when Lord Ganesh was born. Lord Ganesha is worshipped in every household as he is known for his Wisdom, Positivity, Happiness and he removes all the obstacles from the way. People worship him when they start something new like relationships, new journeys like; financial growth; new home, personal growth and much more.
Although many of us celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi very few of us know why we celebrate it. There are different stories glued to his birth, the most known story is jot down here. Goddess Parvati created Ganesh from turmeric powder and had asked him to guard the door and not let anybody come inside the house while she was taking a bath. During this, Lord Shiva came and got into a fight with Ganesha as he was not letting Shiva inside his own house and suddenly Shiva took his trident and chopped off the head of his son. When Parvati laid her eyes on her dead son she was shattered and she ordered Shiva to bring her son to life, instantly; Lord Shiva commanded to Nandi to bring a head of a creature who is away from his mother and who's mother's back is facing the child. Nandi brought the head of an elephant calf.
Lord Shiva then and there placed the head on Ganesha's body and brought it back to life. Parvati was overwhelmed to see her son, again. All the Lords blessed Ganesha and this day is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj first started celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. While Bal Gangadhar Tilak was the one who turned the private household Ganesh Chaturthi to a huge celebration in order to bring the people together. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in households, in schools, in areas. This year Gansesh Chaturthi is celebrated from 31st August 2022- 9th September 2022

The preparations for this festival start one month prior from the day it is celebrated. People celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi by placing idols of Ganesh in their home. Lord Ganesh is offered various dishes [in Hindi called- Bhog] The house is cleaned, the idol is given bath and decorated with flowers. The pooja is started by chanting 108 names of Lord Ganesh and then the aarti begins. It is said that the first aarti brings the idol to life and various bhajans are chanted during this time. Modak's of various types like Ukadiche Modak; Fried Modak, Chocolate Modak are made for Bhagwan Ganesh as it is his favorite sweet. Apart from this various sweets like; Puran Poli, Karanji, Besan Ke Laddoo, Barfi, Peda's are also made.
